Arizona Anti-Immigration Law Written By Racist Organization

Neo Nazi J.T. Ready Hugging Sen. Russell Pearce

The Arizona anti-immigration law that has caused such a huge backlash was written by a racist organization, as exposed by Rachel Maddow.

That the law was introduced to the Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce, who authored an official email to his support and donor base in which he made the conspiratorial claim that journalists pushed the view of:

“a world in which every voice proclaims the equality of the races, the inerrant nature of the Jewish ‘Holocaust’ tale, the wickedness of attempting to halt the flood of non-White aliens pouring across our borders…”

In the photo above, the close relationship between Pearce and J.T. Ready is displayed.  Ready is a Minuteman and nativist, photographed below with the comparatively strong Neo-Nazi movement in Arizona.  His other ties have been well documented by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Critics such as myself point out the law in itself is a clear violation of the 4th Amendment, and is unconstitutional.  Others note that there is simply no way that a ‘reasonable suspicion’ can apply without actual racial profiling take place.

The law itself was authored by Kris Kobach, who is running for Secretary of State in Kansas. The man is also a firm believer in the birther conspiracy that contends Barack Obama was born in Kenya.

Kobach is an attorney for Immigration Reform Law Institute, the legal arm of the chameleon named organization Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR. As Maddow reveals, the founder of FAIR was a well known racist and the seed money to get it started also came from an infamous Eugenics (the same thing the Nazi’s did) outfit.

This really is the least I can do, after having my account at Facebook shut down for my political views. Far worse, is what you're going to see in this film, that continues to this day regarding what the U.S. public is and isn't told via major mass media and corporate news sources about our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Celebrating the Fundamental Principles of Press Freedom

World Press Freedom Day is celebrated every year on 3 May worldwide. It is an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom; to evaluate press freedom, to defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed World Press Freedom Day in 1993, following a recommendation adopted at the twenty-sixth session of UNESCO’s General Conference in 1991.

The United Nations Department of Public Information observance of World Press Freedom Day 2008, organized with the support of UNESCO’s New York Office, was held within the Department’s weekly NGO briefing programme on Thursday, 1 May at 10:00 a.m. in Conference Room 1.

Following an opening segment, the briefing featured a panel discussion on “Access to Information and the Empowerment of People”. The panel discussion provided an overview of the global state of access to information and showed how new information technologies allowed for the empowerment of people, with a specific focus on Brazil. A very clear example of that was provided by the journalist who assembled an open-access database with some 25,000 records of Brazilian politicians showing electoral information and personal data available to voters freely, that has been a constant source of news stories for Brazilian media outlets.

The opening segment included statements and messages by, or on behalf of, the Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, the Chairman of the Committee on Information, the President of the United Nations Correspondents Association and the Director-General of UNESCO.

Jews in Europe Sign a Petition Critical of Oppressive Apartheid/anti-Palestinian Policies and Practices

European Jews sign petition critical of Israel
PARIS — More than 3,000 European Jews, including prominent intellectuals, have signed a petition speaking out against Israeli settlement policies and warning that systematic support for the Israeli government is dangerous.

The petition's signatories include French philosophers Bernard-Henri Levy and Alain Finkielkraut as well as Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a Greens leader in the European Parliament.

Backers — who compare their goals to those of J Street, a liberal pro-Israel Jewish lobbying group in the U.S. — plan to present their position at a news conference at the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday.

Supporters hope to build a European movement that is both "committed to the state of Israel and critical of the current choices of its government."

Israeli columnist Yossi Sarid, a former Cabinet minister identified with Israel's dovish peace movement, praised the initiative in an op-ed published in the Haaretz daily Sunday.

"These are people who seize every opportunity to defend Israel publicly and remain faithful to it," he wrote. "But even their patience is running out and their hearts are filled with sincere concern."

Israel's Foreign Ministry declined to comment because the initiative is not government-sponsored.

Many signatories are from France, where the petition has received much press coverage. France's Jewish community has hotly debated the petition, entitled "Call for Reason." The president of France's leading Jewish association, CRIF, declined to sign, saying he objected to some of its language and its tone.

"Do Israelis need the Jewish Diaspora to know what is 'the right' decision, what should be the borders of a country that their sons and daughters are protecting?" Richard Prasquier wrote in Le Figaro newspaper.

The petition, online at http://www.jcall.eu, says Israel faces a threat in the "occupation and the continuing pursuit of settlements in the West Bank and in the Arab districts of East Jerusalem.

"These policies are morally and politically wrong and feed the unacceptable delegitimization process that Israel currently faces abroad," it says.

It adds that "systematic support of Israeli government policy is dangerous and does not serve the true interests of the state of Israel."

History vs. Herstory: Who Frames The Issues, and Who Names the Truth about something neo-liberals and libertarians called the "Sex Wars"?

Note in the image above WHICH gender appears to being warred against by the other. Note the race that is in charge and the race that is being threatened. There's no equal opportunity war here; nor is there in life outside of the theatre. But in advertising a theatrical production, misogyny and racism are fused to this idea of "sex wars", as well as what is termed "sexually charged". Why not call it like it is A White Man's War Against An Asian Woman? And why refer to racist-misogynist interpersonal terrorism as anything that can also mean "sexy"?

The issue is this:

Who defines "what went down"? Who gets to decide the central issues of something that happened? I maintain that framing up a discussion as "sex wars" already precluded understanding what the significant political issues are with regard to "The Dworkin-MacKinnon Anti-pornography Ordinance". As soon as you focus on the activities around how a law wasn't passed or was passed as something other than what the authors intended, you miss the context: racist capitalist patriarchy, and what such an ordinance would try and achieve by exposing, in court, utilising a law, something that WHM supremacist law and society exists to virulently and adamantly deny: that WHM supremacy exists and oppressively harms all women, men of color, and all non-het people in horrible ways that are usually not understood as systemic, or harm.

The White Right wanted to frame it up as some white radical feminists coming on board with them, in understanding what's dirty, bad, and obscene about pornography. The White Liberals-to-Leftists wanted to frame it up as some white radical feminists abandoning all feminist ethics to cozy up to racists, misogynists, and virulent homophobes to pass into law something that would allow State censorship of pornographic materials, whatever those are.

Meanwhile, Dworkin and MacKinnon, and the many supporters of their civil rights ordinance approach, including many women who were not white, viewed it as an approach that would be politically challenging to the White Het Male Supremacist Right and the White Het Male Supremacst Left--and white lesbians and gay men who wanted pornography unchallenged except outside of the courtroom.

The term "Sex Wars" implies a parity or a level playing field "between the sexes". Womanists and feminists have maintained, using reality as some pretty damning evidence, that this parity has not existed in contemporary times, in Western Civilisation. It has occurred in far more meaningful ways in some Indigenous societies. Currently, and for the last couple of hundred years hundred or more years in the U.S. and the UK, women have been engaged in defensive operations while under attack from men. Women have fought for things like the right to not be considered men's property and the right to vote, and the right to attend men's universities. Men's Rights Assholes seem to want to pretend none of that matters, and that someone, against all social evidence, the tides have turned against men.

In the societies I've known of and am most familiar with, which are white het male supremacist, het men rape women, not "women and men rape each other". Heterosexually, men fuck women: subject verb object, as MacKinnon has succinctly noted, not "women and men fuck each other, all as objects". Men objectify women and rape women and street harass women and workplace harass women, and beat the shit out of women in the home, and have laws and customs in place to dominate women in a multitude of ways, and it is ALL of that together that comprises a social system called patriarchy. The ideology supporting it is male supremacist, not female supremacist, and there's no matriarchy waiting in the wings as soon as the patriarchal papa dies.

White supremacy and male supremacy co-exist, are intertwined, and inform each other, supporting each other's power (white men's power) over women of color, men of color, and white women. There's no "sex  war" there. That's racism, folks. That's racist atrocity that includes the systematic rape of women of color by white men and men of color, and genocide. There's no genocide against white men being committed by white women, women of color, and men of color all working together, as leaders of corporations, institutions, religions, health care systems, federal governments, etc.

Heterosexism is woven into racist patriarchy in intricate and intimate ways. There's no lesbian and gay oppressive system targeting heterosexual with discrimination and violence, and the message, made into truth, that "your sexual identity and feelings is evil". There's no "sexuality wars", folks. There's het supported oppression of non-het people.

What delusional WHM want to do is pretend that white and heterosexual male supremacy doesn't exist, that het men don't have the power and privileges they have, and that "sex" can be seen as separate from all the institutions, systems, and structures that WHM rule in the West, and beyond.

Moving on...

This is what may be the end (famous last words) of my speaking out on a blog about ethics and new technologies. Kyle has been a good moderator, fair and not prone to being so incredibly annoying as perhaps I am, or at least one other person is. Veronica has come and we have battled--not, I have battled against her, for no good reason, and I've apologised and she has accepted it. We could be friends. I like her and misread her, misunderstood her in the context of what we were discussing.

What we all were discussing, Kyle, Veronica, and myself, was a bit off the original post's topic, thanks to me. ;) For the background and the earlier portions of this conversation, please see *here*.

To recap, a WHM named Russell, whose comments open the discussion, whose presence is not again experienced--he never showed up to defend his own speech--because he doesn't have to because he's a WHM with cred, makes some snarky comment about how Andrea Dworkin was working with the White Right in North Amerikkka to get legislation passed that would allow the State--the government--to ban or censor or remove pornnography, pluck it from shops and steal it from under daddy's nightstand.

There are several myths about Andrea Dworkin and this is among them. As with most myths, grains of truth get coated again and again until that grain is not seen and there is only the glossy glow of what surrounds it. These pearls of propaganda have a function, which is the function of most propaganda: to portray some part of reality in such a way, to cast it in such a light, that we will come to distrust any other view, and find any other view to be wrong, a lie, and unacceptable because we the people of these United States care about few things, but dammit, we care about the truth!

The myth is of the (always white) radical feminist censor of pornography, or the (always white) radical feminist who is working with very powerful people, legislators and such, to make something called censorship impact privileged white het men's lives, and some lives of marginalised queer folks, in such a way as to harm both populations by depriving them of images of trafficked or "only" exploited people.

I do think pornography has had different functions in the lives of, for example, gay men and het men, or, rather, gay teen males and het teen males. That's another discussion for another time. For now the issue is what sorts of freedom is worth fighting for, if you identify as profeminist or feminist, and fighting to make sure pornography isn't censored isn't high on my list, primarily for this reason: there's no chance in hell it's going to happen!

But people who love their porn are very nervous about someone, however disempowered structurally, taking all their images and videos away. And this is the myth of what Dworkin and MacKinnon tried to do. We can note, already, that what some people may have tried to do becomes far more important than what white liberals and conservatives DO.

I get into this a bit more in my "debate' with "Iamcuriousblue". A bit about him. He's a troll, a pro-sexxxism, pro-pornography "libertarian" troll. All his posts, no matter where you go, exist to blast radical feminists and promote something I term, sexxxual freedom--whatever the hell that is. For those who wish to protect what pimps make, is about as profeminist to me as arguing for statute of limitations laws for survivors of sexual assault.

Here we go... (this is the last part of the conversation linked to above).

Once again, Julian Real pops in from the sky to defend the holy cause of anti-porn radical feminism. Unfortunately, he makes several points that are in need of correction.

1) Collaboration between radical feminists and the religious right:

Actually, the collaboration between the religious right and radical feminists on a range of sexual issues is well-documented and spans from the anti-porn movement of the 1980s to the current prostitution "abolitionist" movement.

The book "The New Politics of Pornography" documents how Catherine MacKinnon worked closely with religious right leaders to pass the Indianapolis ordinance and then turned around and made every effort to hide this and keep the right-wing activists behind the scenes.

The book "Freeing God's Children: The Unlikely Alliance for Global Human Rights" (a book *sympathetic* to prostitution abolitionism) details the alliance between feminists like Laura Lederer and Equality Now, on one hand, and social conservatives like Michael Horowitz and the Hudson Institute to push what came to be called the "global gag order" around prostitution. I also refer to articles by Jack Shafer in Slate and Debbie Nathan in The Nation further discussing the "abolitionist" alliance:

http://www.slate.com/id/2094896/
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050829/nathan

2) The Dworkin/MacKinnon Ordinance.

The idea that the Dworkin/MacKinnon Ordinance was not a form of censorship, but simply about "holding pimps accountable". Actually, the ordinance contained language expressly defining a wide range of sexually explicit images and allowed lawsuits against such to be taken out by practically anyone "in the name of all women". That this in practice would entail de facto censorship of a wide range of materials and simply displaced the mechanism of censorship from criminal to civil law is obvious, and was recognized as such by the courts in Booksellers v Hudnut.

And @ iamcuriousblue,

Why don't you inform your audience here about the political work of these radical feminists: Florynce Kennedy, Audre Lorde, Alice Walker, June Jordan, Barbara Smith, Pat Parker, Patricia Hill Collins, Pearl Cleage, Patricia Williams, Andrea Smith, the women of INCITE!, Yanar Mohammed, Ruchira Gupta, Malalai Joya.

THEY'RE all Radical Feminists. Ever heard of THEM? Who did they work with to accomplish their radical feminist goals, hmmm?

Hey, this is YOUR cause, not mine... here's I'll quote you (don't you hate that!):

"1) Collaboration between radical feminists and the religious right:"

Why don't you mention ANY of the radical feminists above? Oh, because you only think there ARE three radical feminists, who are all white. Gotcha. Or, well, please do explain.

Where do you stand on capitalism, NAFTA, the WTO, Third World poverty, the IMF, and "free trade" vs. fair trade? Where do you stand on Indigenous Rights?

My position is clear on such things, and yes, I defend the work of Andrea Dworkin from trolls like you. And, in case it isn't abundantly clear, I don't work with either white conservatives, white liberals, or white libertarians. So what camp am I in, huh?

Posted by Iamcuriousblue  on  05/01  at  01:28 PM

Julian, I could hardly give a damn about your particular fringe, authoritarian ultra-left ideology. (Which really does resemble an authoritarian right, even fascist ideology more than you'd care to recognize.)

So, my point is somehow invalidated because I mentioned several prominent radical feminists who actually had influence on legislation rather than your pet fave radical theorists? If that point even began to make sense, I'd actually address it.

"Where do you stand on capitalism, NAFTA, the WTO, Third World poverty, the IMF, and "free trade" vs. fair trade? Where do you stand on Indigenous Rights?"

And this is relevant to the discussion how?

All I have to say about it is that I don't come from a perspective of a Marxist-Leninist/Radical Feminist/Whatever-the-hell-else-sounds-radical clusterfuck of an ideology, unlike some people. And if you were capable of getting your head out of your ideology for 2 seconds, you'd note that most other people in the real world don't either and that screaming more-radical-than-thou rhetoric at people doesn't exactly make your case any stronger.

"So what camp am I in, huh?"

A world of your own, from what I've seen.

Posted by Julian Real  on  05/01  at  02:39 PM

@ Iamcuriousblue,

You link to two blogs on your own, neither having anything at all to do with human rights or ethics.

You are a well-known pro-porn troll.

You live in such a tiny little universe, your own, that you don't realise that, for example, Marxism is well-known and well-practiced throughout South and Central America. You'd know that Leftist ideologies have fueled revolutions that have set people from from the myopic, insensitive, callous people like you, who lead nations with no regard for human rights at all.

All you exist online to do is to promote pornography and the sex you want to engage in.

Go at it.

But don't proclaim yourself to be knowledgeable about what most people around the world are doing. Most radical feminists are Asian, after all.

And you never mention them.

You seem to have a bit of trouble identifying my political stance, because I think the white male supremacist conservatives and the white male supremacist liberals, and the whiteboys on the Left, aren't all that different from one another, from the point of view of ecocide and Indigenous Rights. So why pretend you know what you're talking about?

And what happened to you to make "fighting feminists" your "Cause"?

Seems a mighty petty agenda to me, given that "feminists" are fighting for human rights.

And good job of not answering any questions that might further reveal you to be the selfish, self-centered, virulently antifeminist "libertarian leftist" man you are.

Posted by Julian Real  on  05/01  at  03:04 PM

A revised comment, posted earlier but it never made it to the public:

@Iamcuriousblue and everyone else,

1. The "collaboration" between the "radical feminists" and liberals is also well documented. The Right wing wants to strengthen the status quo in many oppressive ways. The liberals decry this as "wrong" but have no agenda to oppose it substantively. Their ethics are not substantively different than those of the white conservatives. But for you, it's important to pretend that liberals and conservatives are substantively politically different, so that you can attempt to malign "radical feminism", as if "radical feminism" ever was only "one thing" with and "one perspective" and "one agenda", with one group of activists who all worked together and had dinner together and shared dish duties.

As you can note in many places, radical feminisms have not been alligned with either the white Right or the white Left, overall. That's partly because most radical feminists are women of color, who are not at all benefitted by white male supremacist ideologies.

You consider it "ideological" of me to name dominant U.S. ideologies. Curious.

You see, the assumption you're trying to make, which is, if one searches out your comments across the internet, is that radical feminists were REALLY Republican right-wingers who are anti-sex and anti-porn, and because you are ardently pro-porn you see radical feminists as "the enemy" rather than the pimps and traffickers who produce sexual abuse for your visual pleasure.

This is verifiable:
Andrea Dworkin's dozen books critique EVERY institution the Right holds dear to its racist, misogynistic, pro-capitalist, pro-war, wealthy little heart. You haven't explained how this could be so, if she was so "pro-state" and "pro-right wing". Have you read her book "Right-wing Women" where she analyses what the Right and Left each offer women that doesn't constitute human rights for women?

You don't note how U.S. radical feminists have worked with "the Left" on matters of protesting U.S. wars in Central America and Asia. You don't factor in how U.S. radical feminists have had to work with liberals on most issues in this country, including on the level of city councils and state law. Rape services, battered women's shelters, anti-poverty efforts: none of these are right-wing agenda items, and radical feminists have worked alongside liberals on all of them. How do you explain that, given your allegations?

Why do you fail to note that liberals have worked much more closely with the Right-wing on political, economic, and social issues, than radical feminists ever have.

Right-wing men, along with liberal men, want 24/7 access to pornography as well as physical access to women in systems of prostitution. The Right are just better at pretending they're "moral" while committing all manner of atrocity, including by being sex tourists, promoting on-going warfare and pretending the poor are the population most receiving "welfare" and "benefits". I think what we've all learned in the last year and a half about the financial industry shows exactly who is and who is not taking in millions of dollars in "benefits".

Re:
Laura Lederer. Are you aware that "radical feminists" have distanced themselves from her quite a bit since she revealed herself to be Right wing?

2. You appear to want to expose truth about a proposed ordinance that never became a functioning law in the U.S. Why aren't you more concerned with pro-trafficking and pro-exploitation laws, pro-genocide and pro-war laws and policies actively and currently co-supported and crafted by liberals and the Right-wing, that result in the death of millions of people worldwide?

I am puzzled by your agenda. Please explain it.

Posted by Iamcuriousblue  on  05/01  at  03:53 PM

Well, who am I to argue further in light of such an exposition of your pure revolutionary awesomeness? Yeah, Julian, you're just so noble, such an altruist, so looking out for the good of the world's oppressed, I am absolutely awestruck.

Sorry for my "trolling". I'll let you get on with your enlightening the world about the path to true liberation.

Blogging Against Disablism Day: What is a Disability in a Corporate Racist Patriarchy?

[image for Blogging Against Disablism Day is from here]

A few thoughts, questions, and concerns.

Why are all the "people" in the image above more or less the same size and the same gender? Why are there no heavy women represented in that graphic? Why are they all the same height, except for the "person" in the wheelchair? Why are a cane and a wheelchair and being black, brown, red, yellow, pink, and other colors considered THE graphic signifiers of disability? Moving on...

I live in a country in which there is a level of support from political, social, and medical systems one can get if one meets certain criteria, all of them determined by federal and state representatives with the authority to determine who is and who is not disabled.

In this country, you can only get this "Disability" support if you have worked a certain amount in a paid job, earning wages that are reported to the state and federal government. If, for example, you have been too disabled by childhood traumas to work at a pay job, you cannot quality for this "Disability" support. So, unless you are suddenly injured, or some illness suddenly alters your level of employable functioning, you have to show two things: that you have been disabled due to long-standing conditions, and that you weren't disabled enough to not work. And being able to work is one of the criteria for determining whether or not you are going to received this "Disability" support.

As if that's not fucked up enough...

In the U.S., the DSM-V is being prepared--the Diagnostic Statistical Manuel-Version Five, with its latest labels and names for conditions that afflict so many of us. Will it believe that people can repress memories of sexually horrific trauma that occur in isolation in childhood? Will it believe that Cult Ritual Abuse happens, and that it requires great sensitivity when being treated by a mental health care professional? Or will it refuse to believe children and adults who survive these horrors, because, well, they are too horrific to believe?

Will the DSM-V consider living in warfare "a condition in need of specific psychopharmacological protocols"? Will it consider living in poverty in a corporate capitalist-impacted society "a cause of depression serious enough to recommend banishing corporate capitalism and poverty"?

The medical establishment, since it has overthrown more Indigenous-friendly, holistic, spiritual-physical-emotional-mental healing practices (anti-genocidal practices), has turned medicine into a business and "health" into an industry. It has effectively snuffed out the possibilities of Indigenist medicine and treatment protocols being practiced "legitimately" in the U.S. within Indigenous societies that once practiced them.

Is living in a rapist society "disabling" whether or not you are raped? Is it disabling if you ARE raped? What about gang-raped, maritally raped, date raped, raped while inside systems of prostitution? Is being traded as a sexual slave among owners considered "disabling"?

Is living in a heterosexist and virulently lesbophobic and homophobic society considered to be a form of sexual abuse that is disabling? Why not?

Is being of color in a white-majority or white-dominated society, a white supremacist and deeply racist society, considered to do anything negative both to those oppressed and to the oppressors?

Is living without clean water understood to be a "disabling" condition, or is it only when one gets life-threatening dehydrating diarrhea that one becomes "disabled"?

Does living in a country that the U.S. bombs the shit out of, causing people who survive to flee, if physically possible, if they have limbs and can move... does living through that constitute a probably cause for significant Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, because, you know, in the U.S. literature, it only indicates this happens to the ones with the guns who are invading the countries of color.

If the U.S. medical establishment cared about post-traumatic stress, wouldn't it make recommendations to the U.S. government that it end all its wars, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands of civilians who are maimed and murdered (murder being a seriously disabling condition), and for the soldiers who are grossly manipulated by media and the military industrial complex?

Beyond rapism, will the medical establishment ever recognise in its textbooks and seminars, that patriarchy is disabling to women as a class, because it produces conditions of low self-esteem, extreme vulnerability to sexual violence, harassment, discrimination, and callousness from men?

Is being battered considered a mental health or a physical health issue? If it is never seen as a political one, how does that misperception, alone, function to keep women battered by men disabled by their batterers?

If incest and child sexual abuse are never named as endemic problems rooted in social structures and bound to systems of hierarchy, what is the impact on those who are harmed and disabled by that harm? If patriarchal and racist hierarchies, whether religious or secular institutions, are supposed to be comprised of unusually moral leaders who are white and male, predominantly heterosexual, and (therefore) good,

And if these allegedly very good, moral leaders are referred to as fathers (daddy, papa, etc.) and priests, who are also called Fathers,

And if these Fathers and fathers are placed in positions of moral and political authority by secular and religious laws,

And if these laws are made only by Fathers and fathers,

And if the whole of these institutions tells us that we are better off if we have these leaders, who must be male and predominantly heterosexual and preferably also white,

And if most of us are not adults, male, white, and/or predominantly heterosexual,

Is it understood that the institutions, themselves, with their laws and their leaders, are a fundamental egregious cause of disability among the masses, no pun intended?

If the rest of us who are not as good as the leaders tell us they are, how disabling is it for those of us who believe we are bad both because we are not white, are not male, are not adults, are not priests, are not fathers, or heterosexual? Does that mean that people who are female, of color, lesbian and gay, who are secularly, socially, and religiously (politically) subordinated, ought not consider their subordination to be, in and of itself, disabling of their right to be thought of and seen and validated as fully human and as good as anyone else?

What is the social, psychological, and political effect on the abuser of being told "you are good and moral and wise" when, in fact, you fuck your nine year old daughter at night? Or when you rape the nuns near you, or molest the children who are put under your care? If you wish, in courts of law, to claim some form of mental health condition for being so privileged and dominant, why then don't you condemn the institutions which uphold you being there and value you being there?

If Western Civilisation can be shown to be necessarily racist, genocidal, misogynistic, gynocidal, rapist, abusive and neglectful to children, predatory, violating, invasive, destructive to human and non-human life, contemptuously and callously ecocidal, please tell me: in what sense is the civilisation itself not "a disabling condition" one lives with or dies from?

I live in a very fucked up world, and yes, I am disabled. What I am "officially" disabled by has names that are meaningful to medical professionals. But what I am unofficially disabled by are systems of atrocity that are so normalised that the horror of them is publicly unseen, not reported by mass media, and is socially unvalidated as such.

I object to systems of harm that are designed specifically to oppress many people, to allow for all manner of injury to the mind, body, and spirit of those so oppressed. I object to institutions that are designed to only call some of the harm done politically socially harmful, while calling the rest of it a problem I seem to have, that thousands of others also seem to have, that pharmacies have pills to treat, as if a pill will topple an institution committing the atrocities that harm us.

I hope that's clear. It's difficult to be clear about something when it is denied right in front of your face by "good" and "wise" people who are legally and politically authorised to diagnose and treat you... as a thing that must fit into certain diagnostic categories, rather than a being impacted by systems of abuse unnamed and unchallenged.

Andre Picard Sort of Gets It that Gynocide and Genocide Are Atrocities, but not that they are what normal men and whites are invested in

I just came across this and wanted to cross post it. The original is from *here*. And what follows has my interruptions and commentary, in bold and in brackets.

Andre Picard's Second Opinion

With more than 500 aboriginal women missing, action is overdue

How can this not be considered a national priority for police, justice and public-health officials?

Andre Picard
Last week, the Manitoba government announced the creation of a joint RCMP and Winnipeg Police task force to investigate dozens of cases of missing and murdered women in the province.

The news, while welcome, raises the question: Why limit the investigation to Manitoba?

It is true that there are at least 75 missing women in the province, virtually all of them aboriginal. Police have been seemingly incapable of solving the cases and halting the race-based violence. [That would be also be GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE, Andre, unless we find out all the killers are women! And likely also class-based. Killing poor women never gets the mass media attention as the killing of middle class and wealthy white people does.]

But, nationwide, the data are even more gut-wrenching: The Native Women's Association of Canada has catalogued 520 cases of missing or murdered aboriginal women, half of them since the year 2000.

The women, most under the age of 30, are overwhelmingly victims of sexual violence. They are being preyed upon systematically by sexual sadists, killers and probably more than one serial killer. [Or by normal men. You could at least use the word: MEN.]

How can this not be considered a national priority for police, justice and public-health officials? [For human rights activists, for people who care about ending white/het/male supremacist genocide and gynodicde!]

Sadly, when a native woman is murdered or vanishes under suspicious circumstances, it does not mobilize police action nor generate near as much media attention as similar cases involving non-native women. [And this is a tangled mess of racism and specifically anti-Indigenism, misogyny, and classism.]

They were drunk. They were sex workers. [The callousness and cruelty inheres more in the fact that they were poor and desperate, they were pimped and trafficked and some may have been sold into sexual slavery. They were seen as existing only for men's sexual pleasure--primarily white het men's, and were seen as expendable, because there's supposedly always more where they came from, up to a point.] They came from unstable family backgrounds. They were runaways. They were party girls. An endless litany of excuses for inaction is trotted out with shocking regularity. [They weren't wealthy white het men.]

Let's be blunt. The main reason an in-depth investigation is required is that the situation reeks of racism, stereotyping and discrimination. There seems to be a deadly double standard at play. [Why is it about "gendered violence" that isn't screaming out at you, Andre? Are these women NOT women? Are the perpetrators, the rapists, the murderers NOT men? For a group stalked and murdered precisely because they were not men, you really go out of your way to make this seem like it's only about racism. If that were true, the stats would be just as high for missed and murdered men of color, right?]

It is true that many of the 500-plus aboriginal women who have been murdered or disappeared had difficult life circumstances. [As one tends to have when surviving genocide and racialised and gendered poverty and misogyny. As Mary Brave Bird said, if you're white and male, you're lucky.]

But it is precisely these circumstances - alcoholism, drug addiction, sexual abuse, the sequelae of residential schools, poverty, survival sex, etc. - that placed them at much higher risk. ["Survival sex"?? That's a new one. Why not call it being pimped? Why not call it being a prostitute? Women who are very poor are very vulnerable not just to the occasional "good samaritan procurer" who will trade sex for cash. Women and girls tend to be preyed upon by pimps, Andre. So "survival sex" really makes the systems of racist/classist/misogynist/heterosexist exploitation and lethal violence sound like they aren't systems of harm at all.]

The life expectancy of an aboriginal [person] is a decade less than a non-aboriginal [person] in Canada. The rate of infant mortality is three times higher. The suicide rate is six times higher. Aboriginal people have a rate of diabetes and heart disease three times the national average, and dramatically higher rates of infectious diseases like tuberculosis, HIV-AIDS and H1N1 influenza. [It's not called genocide for nothing. You think maybe white folks want Indigenous North Americans to SURVIVE or something?]

The key determinants of health - individually and collectively - are social and economic factors such as housing, income, education, environment and empowerment. First nations, Métis and Inuit communities fare particularly dismally in these essential areas. [One key factor is building a whole civilisation based on white male entitlement to take over the world. It's called racist patriarchy, and it shows up in every facet of life, in every system, in every corner of one's experience. So I'd call that a key factor that is political.]

Unemployment levels and poverty rates in aboriginal communities are three times higher than in mainstream society. Only 4 per cent of natives have a university education, one quarter the rate in mainstream society. More than one third of aboriginal people in Canada have, in government jargon, a "core housing need," meaning their homes do not meet the most basic standards of acceptability. Overcrowding, lack of running water and inadequate sewage services are the norm in many native communities. [Which, I'd argue, meets the standards of acceptability quite well, for genocidalists. If it were genuinely unacceptable, it wouldn't exist. It exists precisely because it IS acceptable to whites, the wealthy, and men who are not members of the First Nations.]

Not to mention that an aboriginal is five times more likely to be murdered than a non-aboriginal Canadian.
The murder of poor (literally and figuratively [?!--as in "pitiful"?!]) aboriginal women is the most extreme manifestation of the price first nations, Inuit and Métis peoples are paying for the abysmal social conditions in which they are trapped. [I'd say it is the most acceptable manifestation of white het male supremacist civilisation. I'd say it's mandatory, in fact. Proof of that is how few predators/normal white men are caught and prosecuted. You can bet if the victims were wealthy white men there wouldn't be 520 disappearances before it got some major press--half of those in one year!]

The murders are also a gruesome symbol of society's indifference to that plight. [Indifference, callousness, cruelty, denial, destruction, death, and delusion are core values of any capitalist racist patriarchy.]

Much was made of the fact that virtually all of mass murderer Robert Pickton's victims were sex workers. But rarely did we hear that almost all his victims were young aboriginal women. There is evidence that a serial killer may also be at work in Manitoba, and a single [white het] man may also be responsible for the carnage along British Columbia's infamous Highway of Tears. (The Yellowhead Highway, which stretches 750 kilometres from Prince George to Prince Rupert has been the site of nine murders and disappearances since 1990, all but one of the victims young aboriginal women.) But the reality is that the Highway of Tears stretches from sea-to-sea-to-sea in this country: Aboriginal women have been murdered or disappeared by the score in every single province and territory in Canada. [As well as in 'the lower 48', and as well across the globe.]

This is not a Manitoba-only problem. [To say the least.]

Beverley Jacobs, president of the Native Women's Association of Canada, has repeatedly called for a national investigation into this on-going horror.

As she noted, the deaths and disappearances of 520 aboriginal women is the equivalent of 18,000 missing and murdered non-aboriginal women.

Would we stand idly by while a massacre of our daughters, sisters, mothers and grandmothers unfolded on this scale? [And by "our" you mean... white? That's taking assumptions about literacy a bit far, don't you think? And you know damn well that if all the missing and dead were Black, non-Indigenous women, there'd be no major press about that either. So let's call it like it is: if you're not white and you are not wealthy and you are killed, media doesn't care what happens to you. Put in place an economic system that is entirely white male supremacist, and you'll end up with very poor women of color.]

We would not and we should not. [But "we" whites, will and we whites do. It's not like the gynocidal genocide started a couple of years ago, right? I mean we whites have had a few centuries to get a grasp on how this particular atrocity works, yes?]

Incomprehensibly [or not], Ms. Jacobs's call for a national investigation has gone unheeded by the federal government. Instead, politicians have contented themselves with funding research into the problem. [Dude, that's all that's supposed to happen. I'm glad you're outraged and upset, but please don't pretend this is new or at all unusual. It is, literally and figuratively, "status quo" behavior and practice.]

A report published earlier this year, entitled Voices of Our Sisters in Spirit, makes for chilling reading, recounting the stories of many murdered and missing aboriginal women. The data therein are as humbling as they are sickening: More than half the murders of aboriginal women remain unsolved. [Don't worry: whites won't read it. It's too chilling and sickening.]

It's time to go beyond mere cataloguing of the carnage, and to understand the root causes. [WHITE HET MALE SUPREMACY, and WESTERN CAPITALIST CIVILISATION.]

In Canada, a death or a disappearance should not be taken less seriously because of the colour of a person's skin. [Yeah, well. Welcome to the world of reality. Again, sir, you're not like 18. You've had plenty of time to notice THERE'S A GYNOCIDAL GENOCIDE GOING ON.]

And [non-Indigenous] Canadians should not tolerate that the horror of these crimes - 520 daughters, sisters, mothers and grandmothers stolen away from their families, friends and communities - be redoubled by indifference. ["Our" indifference doesn't go away because crimes happen against the poor, against women, and against people of color. Not unless "our" means a federal government comprised of ethical people of color, women, and poor people.]

Our willful blindness to the plight of aboriginal women is the greatest injustice. [I agree it's an atrocity. But it's one you and every other white Canadian benefit from, so don't leave that out. Because whether you say so or not, you are invested, literally and figuratively, in genocide and in gynocide within and beyond Canada.]

Taylor Swift's Song goes Gay. Okay, so it's MAY 1st, not APRIL 1st, but this video isn't showing anything foolish. Just charming.

I found this on the blog FourthWaveFeminism. They found it on the blog Feministe--thanks, Chally! The links are *here* and *here*, where Chally offers up some needed feminist critique of the original Swift video compared to this remake.

You've got to see the Yellowjackets, an all-male a capella group, who made an adorable white gay male music video set to Taylor Swift's "You Belong to Me". I can't imagine what my life would've been like if I'd grown up with abundant mass media like this, that wasn't only a semi-humorous send up of a white hetero/sexist straight song, I mean. I'm wishing for mass media, until mass media dies, to take lesbian and gay existence seriously and to locate it centrally in all programing, including the news.

Yes, a boy can dream.

And what I don't need to see centralised, or anywhere at all, quite frankly, is even more racist and heterosexist objectification and pornographisation of lesbian and gay people, either. The pro-sexxxual exploitation queer folk and their straight brethren and sisters can leave me out of that utterly unradical devolution. Ain't nothing "queer", let alone radical, about pimping and pornography, folks. And, to my queer sibs, try "transgressing" by resisting racist heteropatriarchy, for a change, not replicating it.

To the mass media makers: I want more than a lesbian or gay character on MTV's Real World, and more than Will and Grace, and more than a long drawn out storyline about two white middle to upper middle class guys named Luke and Noah on As The World Turns. Because, you know, predominantly, if not entirely, white middle class existence isn't all there is. And my lesbian and gay sibs of color ought to have media role models too.

This message is clearly not being brought to you by your regular television shows' sponsors.

I'll stop my complaining, so we can all sit back and enjoy this little show of what life could be like--in living color next time, please. Okay, now I'm done complaining.

Enjoy! (It's VERY cute.)
