Anuradha Koirala of Maiti Nepal declared CNN Hero of the year 2010

Anuradha Koirala declared CNN Hero of the year 2010- Heartfelt thanks to all the on line voters, well wishers, partners and supporters!!! - 2010-11-22

Anuradha Koirala the chairperson of Maiti Nepal, and a crusador known for her anti human trafficking drive through her non profit making organization Maiti Nepal, has been named the 2010 CNN Hero of the year. This is the first time a Nepali bagged the prestigious international award.

CNN's Anderson Cooper announced the result at the conclusion of the fourth-annual CNN Heroes: An All- Star Tribute, from the Shrine Audiotorium amid a gala event in Los Angelos, California, before an audience of nearly 5,000 .

Anuradha Koirala was chosen by the public in an on line poll that ran for eight weeks on CNN.com. Koirala was introduced by actress Demi Moore, who along with her husband, Ashton Kutcher, created DNA, The Demi and Ashton Foundation, which aims to eliminate child sex slavery worldwide.

" Everyday this woman confronts the worst of what humanity has to offer," Moore said of Koirala.

Maiti Nepal is best known for its mission to curb women trafficking from Nepal to the sex industries abroad, and the rescue and rehabilitation of over 12,000 victims.

Maiti Nepal at this moment of bliss thanks all of its supporters, voters, partners and well wishers for being with us during the entire campaign it has initiated.
