9 NOVEMBER 2009 ECD UPDATE: ONLY COMMENTS POSTED BY THOSE WHO HAVE REGISTERED WILL BE ALLOWED. NO MORE COMMENTS POSTED BY ANYONE "ANONYMOUSLY" WILL BE ALLOWED OR ACCEPTED.
For complex reasons, I may need to no longer accept any comments made anonymously or comments from anyone who does not provide me with a working and accurate email personal address (not some fake email address that is linked to a false identity). I will likely soon need to be able to verify the identity, off this blog, of everyone who posts here.
I'll wait for feedback from "the regulars" before implementing this new policy. (And if those comments are sent anonymously, they will not necessarily get posted, but I will read them and take them into account.)
And if I don't get any feedback, I'll implement it in a few days. Until then, I'm not posting comments from people whose email addresses I don't have. Anyone can send me their email address in a comment marked "DO NOT POST: HERE'S HOW TO REACH ME." This information will not get posted, needless to say!
Love to all the regular supportive readers and commenters,
Julian
END OF POST.
ingreculJulian,(ive been trying to comment but it doesnt go thru-trying again-but if you get the others too -im only meaning to send one.)Just wanting to say I am glad you have protected yourself-those personal beating, rape, and death threats were/are disturbing ,STUPID,and serious.Everything else 'they' wrote was just- STUPID.-I really like your perspective on this blog and I like your blogroll alot--take care --coni
ReplyDeleteJulian I fully support your safety, and if that means no anonymous comments then so be it. Sure, anonymous commenting is intended to protect readers from the very kinds of attacks to which you have been subjected, but in reality it just emboldens the attackers. I think the 'confidential' commenting you propose is a great option.
ReplyDeleteJulian be safe. Anonymous commenting just enables hateful people to spew vitriol and threaten violence without any repercussions. Accountability is a very effecting cleansing agent for the uglier things that can grow under a cloak of anonymity. I see no problem whatsoever with having people log in, as long as you are accountable and vigilant about their privacy/safety concerns, and I know you absolutely would be.
ReplyDeleteHi Coni!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to reply. Please take good care as well. <3
Hi Cadence Hardy,
ReplyDeleteIt's such a tricky matter, about how to do this, wanting any commenter who is an ally to be able to post with the anonymity they need. I'm glad you find the steps I've taken to be appropriate ones. :)
Hi nicole,
ReplyDeleteI work in a variety of ways to stay safe and to ensure the safety of those who visit here in solidarity.
If there are any ways you know of for me to better ensure safety and privacy of those coming here, that won't allow men to post gross things in a completely unaccountable way, please let me know.
I'm surely open to fine tuning this.
