Save Rapanui Benefit in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, 2010: Press Release. Details here.

image of Rapa Nui (white dot in the Pacific Ocean west of Santiago, Chile) is from here
Rapa Nui is known in English as "Easter Island" because a Dutch man arrived there on what was, in his strange culture and according to his peculiar religion, "Easter Sunday". It is a tourist site for many white Westerners who believe that Polynesian island nations, people, and cultural and spiritual belongings are perpetually up for visit, for photographing, or for purchase. It is one of thousands of islands invaded and exploited by European men, to the detriment of the people and land, and other life there.

Rapa Nui has a very complex cultural history that includes different accounts by people not from there. But it is known that a Christian missionary brought tuberculosis, killing many. It also appears that Peruvian slave raiders took many people from the island and also brought small pox to the island. Because of reported class systems and battling on the island among its first inhabitants--reported by the people of the cultures who would kill them, the Indigenous portion of the story of Rapa Nui, which continues to this day, would lead many racist whites I know to conclude something I've heard more times than I can count: "SEE, not all INDIGENOUS people were PEACEFUL." My response is almost always, "What does that have to do with anything? I said it is wrong for whites to invade places where people of color live, and genocide is wrong, including when whites commit it." There is a strange logic I find among white descendants of invaders, colonisers, and settlers, that because we are where we are, there must have been something good about the process that led us to being here. This takes some pretty twisted turns, including believing that whites saved Indigenous/Aboriginal people from themselves. As if European men should get some kind of award for viciously slaughtering, raping, infecting, and enslaving Indigenous people around the world. And there's the deforestation and other assaults against the land. As if  "That's how God wanted it." Such a callous and cruel theistic god has no business in this part of the universe, if that's the way "He" thinks "progress" happens. "Progress", after all, is just a glorified term for genocide and ecocide--and for maintaining and intensifying male supremacy.

It wasn't only European men who invaded Rapa Nui. But as European men have done the most damage to the most people, globally and continually, and because some European men--the non-Jewish ones--are in some ways "my people", this blog focuses on them.

Conditions all of which are currently generated by foreigners are producing, very intentionally not so very intentionally, the complete cultural and physical genocide of the people of Rapa Nui. Below is an effort organised to try and forestall or prevent this genocide. I hope you can find ways to be of assistance in the efforts led by Indigenous people to keep Western/white mono-culture from destroying every other culture.

Los Angeles, CA—

Rapa Nui, also known as Isla de Pascua, but better known as Easter Island, is part of the Polynesian Triangle that stretches from Hawaii to the North, Rapa Nui to the East and New Zealand to the South. Easter Island has long been the subject of curiosity and speculation. How and why did its inhabitants carve and transport the massive statues (Moai) which surround the island? What remains of this culture today, and what lessons can we learn from their legacy?
Rapa Nui is one of the most remote places on the planet. Their closest neighbor, Pitcairn Island with fewer than a hundred inhabitants, is about 1,300 miles to the West. Continental Chile is about 2,200 miles to the East. It is a U.N. World Heritage site, famous for its monolithic Moai, stone statues created and moved by the islanders’ ancestors.

Until 1888, Rapa Nui was unclaimed by any foreign country. The island lacked rivers and trees, and a safe anchorage. Chile annexed the island under the impression that it had agricultural potential and strategic possibilities as a naval station. Formal annexation brought little change to the island until 1896 when Chile placed the island under the jurisdiction of the Department of Valparaiso. The island was turned into a vast sheep ranch under the direction of a Valparaiso businessman, Enrique Merlet, who confiscated buildings and all animals left to the Rapanui by the missionaries who had fled the island in the wake of Dutrou-Bornier's reign of terror. Islanders were forced to build a stone wall around the village of Hangaroa and, except for work, permission was needed to leave the area even to fetch water from the crater. Those who revolted against these perverse rules were exiled to the continent, few returned.

As of August 4th, 2010, the people of Rapa Nui have non-violently re-occupied the lands that had been unlawfully taken by Chile from their grandparents. The Chilean government has responded by sending in armed forces. As the Rapa Nui people strive to reclaim their island and independence, the islanders may be on the brink of extermination at the hands of Chilean forces.

A peaceful resolution would be the hope for restoration to the world and a new beginning for Te Pito O Te Henua “the Navel of the World,” what the early settlers called Rapa Nui.

The Indian Law Resource Center in Washington D.C. has agreed to represent the Rapa Nui families and the Rapa Nui Parliament.

Although many people think the island is deserted and the Moai are a mystery, the Rapa Nui are very much alive and has been a civilization of master engineers, artists and survivalists for nearly 2000 years.

Man-Unkind: When Hate is Called Love and When Love is Called Hate, What is Being Protected and What is Being Destroyed?

image is from here
Across the web and across time, feminists, especially radical feminists and any radical human rights activists, whether Marxist, Indigenist, pro-queer, anti-racist, or environmentalist, are routinely called haters of something or another, as if fighting for human rights, animals rights, and the rights of the Earth to be free of the White Het Man's abuses is a hateful thing to do. To whom or to what, we must ask, are radical activists and their political-spiritual efforts hateful? To women? To the poor? To people of color? To lesbians, gay males, and bisexuals? To intersex, intergender, and transgender people? To the animals and plants? To the sky, the land, and the water? To Gaia?

The answer as evidenced by what the White Het Man writes and expresses online and offline is that any opposition or resistance to forces of destruction and domination, or apathy, sadism, and allegedly inevitable supremacy will be considered "hate" by the enforcers of that destruction who is Him, his protectors, and his apologists. His destruction is expressed as misogyny (woman-hating), racism and genocide (white supremacist bias and bigotry, violation and other violence, cultural devastation and appropriation, and mass murder), heterosexism (violence against lesbians, gay males, and gender non-conforming people--as the White Het Man defines "gender" and "them"), and ecocide. Our resistance, or opposition, our determination to survive his efforts at global death must not be named by him alone or by him authoritatively. We must refuse him the power to name Love and the power to name Hate in ways that make him the manifestation of all that is good and us the sources of all that is evil.

One thing I have noticed that the White Het Man experiences as an egregious act of HATE is me or anyone else referring to him as "the White Het Man". If only the groups of people he oppressed were so lucky as to only be referred to by such a non-hateful term! If only women were only called "Women" and queer people were only called "Lesbian and Gay"! If only people of color were only called "Asian" and "Indigenous", Black, and Brown! But he is not content to do so. Instead he unleashes upon the world all manner of cruel terms and labels designed to stigmatise, stereotype, degrade, humiliate, and diminish people who are not "Him". And with those terms are punishments--practices designed to take away from us our dignity and our determination to survive his efforts to use or kill us.

What is being asked of "Him"? Is he being asked by the oppressed--by those he oppresses--to behave inhumanely or is he being asked to love all of humanity and the Earth? The Buddha, Jesus, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Audre Lorde, Andrea Dworkin, Alice Walker, Catharine MacKinnon, bell hooks, and so many other human rights activists and teachers have asked the oppressor to stop his destructive ways. They have requested, in every tone of voice imaginable, that the oppressor stop his hating and to practice love in meaningful ways--in ways that are not injurious and destructive to the planet and its people. Either he does not know how listen or he does not care to listen. If he listens, what he hears is a gross distortion of what is being asked of him. When Andrea Dworkin asked a group of men to organise to end rape--to stop rape, once and for all, she was called, by the White Het Man, a "man-hater". When men defend rape as a practice that is biologically or evolutionarily inevitable, they are called lovers. I offer up as evidence of this the following:

"I Want a Twenty-Four-Hour Truce During Which There Is No Rape", by Andrea Dworkin. (Errors in the transcription of this speech will be corrected within the next two weeks.)

The Inevitability of Patriarchy, by Steven Goldberg.

A Natural History of Rape, by Randy Thornhill and Craig T. Palmer.

Any challenges to the power and entitlements of the oppressive ways of the White Het Man is seen by him as an absolute and intolerable affront. He feels accosted, abused, and "oppressed" and doesn't hesitate to say so and lash out against and punish (including by death) anyone who challenges his belief in his own supremacy. He insults those who ask him to be humane in an effort to protect the very privileges and power that keeps him inhumane.

I conclude that oppressors want to hate more than they want to love, and they do not really wish to find out the meaning of either term as each is experienced by the oppressed. This is key: he doesn't wish to be brought outside of his own protected world of denial and destruction to experience what most of the world experiences every day.

This is beyond selfish. It is beyond egotistical and narcissistic. It is a willful refusal to be humane as the term is defined by anyone other than him.

The White Het Man portrays himself as the supreme logician, the Rational Master of the Universe, the Hero, and the Endpoint of Evolution. His self-glorification no know bounds. What he cannot come to terms with, in front of anyone other than himself, is the fact that anything he accomplishes that he calls "good" or "holy" must be done at the expense and extermination of someone or something else that is not "him".

And so anyone or anything that opposes him will be seen, by him, as "bad" "unholy", "wicked", "evil", "communistic", "anti-family", and against the laws of Nature or the Will of [His] God.

There has been much discussion about how and whether to engage with him, the White Het Man, sometimes only referred to as the White Man, or The Man. The discussion runs the gamut from the oppressed stating we must love him more to we must love one another more and stop trying to change him. He can change. He can become humane. And perhaps it is time and always has been time to let him figure out how to do that without the rest of us teaching him, encouraging him, supporting him, consoling him, and attending to his every neurosis and need.

Yesterday I was reading the writings of a Black lesbian separatist. I will tell you this: I do not know any white het men--not a single one--who would assume she is not, in some way, "a hater". That he cannot imagine loving her in ways that register for her as love is, apparently, beyond his capacity of imagination or action. What might such love look like? It might look like him acknowledging the power and privileges he has over and against her that are in him and beyond him simultaneously--they are exercised by him and externalised into institutions and systems of hateful dehumanisation which he thinks of as loving only because he believes they are good. He believes heterosexism, racism, and misogyny are good, and so acting out of those forms of hatred and bigotry are good because he continually establishes himself as The Great Namer of Truth in his own mind and in his own society of patriarchal peers.

I have engaged in many conversations with the worshippers, apologists, and apostles of the White Het Man. I don't think it has ever been fruitful. He has not demonstrated any genuine willingness to grow or learn. He instead insists that people are against him, as he is an innocent on the Earth, doing nothing at all that is hateful and demeaning and destructive to everyone else.

I support the Separatist project, for those whom the White Het Man oppresses, exploits, and extinguishes. I do not practice it, and, for many reasons, cannot practice it. And I know a tiny fraction of human beings--perhaps as few as one tenth of one percent of people on Earth, will manage to keep their energies entirely directed at helping the oppressed and disregarding the Great WHM Oppressor.

What I want to encourage, though, is for those of us who are oppressed by Him, as we define oppression, not as He does, to not fight amongst ourselves, blame ourselves, or shame ourselves. Especially to not insult, maim, and kill ourselves. What I support is us Loving one another in ways that sustain us. We may Love him too. He usually won't experience it as Love, though. For he seems utterly determined to confuse Love with Hate. He calls feminists "feminazis" for example. He calls Indigenous people who are fighting for their land and their water, "thieves". He calls people of color working for human rights "uppity" and "racist". He calls lesbians and gay males "an abomination". He considers the Earth a thing for him to exploit and abuse.

I heard one white het man refer to Yoko Ono, over the weekend, on the radio, as "a radical feminist" and what he meant was that she was a humanitarian, a lover of humanity, a human rights advocate. It is perhaps the first time ever I've heard a white het man use the term "Radical Feminist" in a positive sense. This shows me that WHM can "get it". John Lennon, also, "got it". It is not beyond WHM to understand that opposition to WHM supremacy is not hateful, but is, rather, deeply and profoundly loving. But WHM, collectively, do not give each other much room to declare this without putting each other down in misogynistic ways.

Those remain his problems to work out while the rest of us get on with the business of Living and Loving the world into a far more sustainably peaceful and joyful place where there is care and compassion, empathy and endurance, along with inevitable pain and death because part of Life is pain and death. What there will cease to be, one day, are the forms of pain and death, sadism and destruction, oppression and exploitation organised by White Het Men and inflicted upon everyone and everything else on Earth.

Petition to Replace the Disgrace known as Columbus Day with a National/International Holiday Honoring American Indians

In some parts of the U.S. the fourth Friday in September, annually, is celebrated as Native American Day. For more, see here, which is where I found this symbol online.

What follows is from *here*. Please click on the title below to link back so you can sign the petition. The purpose and description of the petition is below the title.

To:  All people of the world Congress of the United States
Senate of the United States
President of the United States

We the undersigned come together before you to request that each of these governing bodies take all necessary action to bring about a Federal Holiday for Native American Elected Leaders, To include Congressional hearings on the racial exclusion of Native Americans in movies, television, sports advertising, music companies, etc.

With the special government to government relationship between the Indian Government of America and the Federal Government it is fitting for the Federal Government to enact this holiday, and conduct Congressional hearings.

Indian governments and the people they represent are requesting that the federal government bring about a National Holiday for Native Americans to be celebrated by all citizens of America and people around the world.

This holiday would pay tribute to Indian Tribal Leaders to include Alaskan Leaders and Hawaiian Leaders. This holiday would also pay tribute to those that endured the world's longest holocaust and most costly in human lives.

It is further stated that no Indian Government nor its people find reason to celebrate and pay for Columbus Day. Seventeen states do not recognize Columbus Day. The state of South Dakota has changed Columbus day to Native American Day.

Therefore be it resolved that the Federal Government should reevaluate Columbus Day by moving it back to its original day the second Wednesday of October and not be a tax paid holiday as is St. Patrick's Day and Octoberfest, and make the second Monday of October a Federal holiday for Native Americans.

The polls we conducted across the country show that the vast majority of Americans prefer changing Columbus Day as to creating a whole new holiday.

It is inappropriate for Indian children and children of America to celebrate Columbus discovering a nation of people and not having a holiday paying tribute to the people of those nations.

Remembering Columbus Dismembering Indians: For THIS, a holiday? SHAME on the U.S. Government!

In 1492, Columbus Sailed Stained The Ocean Blue Red.

The video that follows is horrific in its honest portrayal of what savage men from Europe did when they came to this land. It conveys blood-thirsty, ruthless Christian European men torturing and slaughtering people: babies, children, and adults--female and male. The people being slaughtered savagely, barbarically, are not Christian Europeans.

The video makes no mention of the fact that Christopher Columbus began pimping and trafficking Indigenous Caribbean girls to European men. He did that too. (See the link, The Rapist Savage, below.) And we have a Holy-day for him why? Is it because European and U.S. Christian white manhood still practices systematic slaughter and rape not only in the "Americas" but also across Africa and throughout Asia?

As a white Jew with Italian heritage, I spit on the memory of Christopher Columbus and curse his legacy. I stand in full support of the removal of this "holy-day" from the U.S. calendar. Instead, I support dozens of days throughout the year to honor those American Indians such as Lozen and Geronimo, Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, who fought to keep European men from continuing the gory and inglorious genocide of dozens of millions of people who were not European.

A broch tsu Columbus - A curse on Columbus! Maledico Columbus!

Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010: Special Report- Major boost for sex tourism in India (part 1)

Legalising prostitution in a country battling from human trafficking has not quite been the wisest move by the Indian government. Prostitution might be as old as civilization itself however; it is the worst form of oppression and slavery. It is a result of extreme poverty, criminal greed and the patriarchal misogynist nature of society that has evolved over time.

Eight hundred thousand women and young girls are bought and sold each year. What is most worrying however is, if it wasn’t for prostitution this modern day slave trade as we know it would not exist. India, one of the world’s largest developing economies has a billion dollar prostitution industry. According to official figures, there were more than 2.8 million prostitutes operating in the country and actively involved in the sex trade in 2007. This figure is expected to have tremendously increased in the last few years.

What is most interesting however is the fact that according to a Human rights watch report in 1996 there were 10 million sex workers in the country and BBC had concluded in one of its reports that the figure of sex workers had increased to 3 million in 2003-04. Therefore there is a high likelihood that the government of India has under reported the exact figures to evade the eye of the Human rights watch, Ngo’s and media.

With the advent of Commonwealth games 2010 that will be attracting scores of foreign tourists the Indian capital has become a whore – fest. While there has been much talk revolving around corruption during the preparations of the CWG 2010, it has brought a massive influx of money for many. Architects, Engineers, construction companies, hotels, travel agencies and shops. One might wonder who else can benefit from the Commonwealth games. Ruchira Gupta a member of the organization Apne Aap Women Worldwide says ‘look no further than the sex trade’.

According to Gupta, thousands of Indian girls are being kidnapped by traffickers all over the country and being sold to pimps and brothels who are reportedly preparing them for the CWG games in Delhi. It is also noted that the women are injected with oxytocin to make their bodies more voluptuous for the sex trade. Most of the girls that are being kidnapped and trafficked are between the ages of 9 to 17.

One particular anti-trafficking organization working in the Indian Capital, Shakti Vahini states that almost 40 to 45 girls have been rescued since March and the girls belonged to the poorest states of India including Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. According to the Action against Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of children, many girls are being kidnapped from the extremely poor areas of the country like Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka to curb the shortfall of sex workers the capital city faces with the large influx of foreigners. Some say the shortfall is as much as 50%.

These girls are then being trained and coached by pimps. They are also being taught English and words like ‘hello’, ‘how are you’, ‘thank you’ and most importantly the phrase ‘please use a condom’.

GB Road in Delhi India is famous for housing hundreds of prostitution dens in the country’s capital city and according to reports; the red light zone in the capital is getting a major face lift in the wake of the CWG 2010. The brothels are upgrading themselves to provide luxurious facilities and make them more appealing for the foreign customer by installing fridges, air conditioners and LCD TV’s.

Tina Jaswal, the CEO and owner of the No 1 escort agency of New Delhi has said that she is hoping to make some good money out of the games and simple economic principles of demand and supply will ensure that she gets high rates for her call girls. She also stated that their agency has effectively doubled their rates and have increased the number of call girls as well.

Imagine: It's John Lennon's 70th Birthday on October 9, 2010. And it is Sean Ono Lennon's 35th birthday--the same exact age John was when Sean was born. Hapy Birthday, Sean!

(See YouTube for over 80 tribute videos by musicians and fans)

(Check out Google's mainpage for this)

See IMAGINE *here*, featuring John Lennon and Yoko Ono. I'm wishing you joy and peace, Yoko!

I'd kind of like to think, even with the Italian version, that I was named after Julian Lennon. But as I was born over two months before he was, that's unlikely. Julian is now 47. He's lived seven years longer than his father did. I'm wishing you joy and peace, Julian! Joy and peace also to your mum, Cynthia, who wrote a great book about John

And a very happy, joyful, peaceful 35th birthday to you, Sean!

Julian and Sean Lennon Come Together

Having Grown Up Separately in the Shadow of a Beatle, the Half-Brothers Discuss Their Careers and Their Close Bond

(CBS)  Fans of John Lennon plan to COME TOGETHER at events around the world next Saturday to mark the anniversary of his birth. Hard to believe, but that's the day Lennon would have turned 70. And who would have thought Lennon's two long estranged families would ever come together in peace and harmony. But as Anthony Mason now shows us . . . they have:

In the often-bitter history of the Beatles family . . . it was a surprising moment of unity.

John Lennon's first wife Cynthia and the woman he left her for, Yoko Ono, embracing.

On the eve of what would have been Lennon's 70th birthday, his two wives and their two sons . . . all together now.

"That was most curious how that came together," said Julian Lennon. "I did tell everybody that everybody was going to be there - and wasn't quite sure if everybody was going to turn up!" he laughed.

The occasion was the opening of Julian Lennon's first exhibition of photographs.

At 47, John Lennon's first-born son is already 7 years older than his father was when he was killed in 1980.

"If millions of people weren't coming up and asking you about your father's 70th birthday, is it something you would be marking in any way?" Mason asked.

"I'm actually looking at my age and his age, going, Jesus, what happened?" Julian laughed. "You know, time has flown. And now more than ever look back with a great deal of respect for him as a man, and his work, but not necessarily as a father. There's a lot of forgiveness now."

It's been the paradox of Julian Lennon's life that he spent his childhood chasing after his father's love, and the years since running from his father's shadow.

He scored a series of his own hits in the Eighties, but was always being measured against his father's almost mythological image:

But earlier this year Julian suddenly set out in a new direction . . . considering a career as a photographer.

"It's kind of unexpected, isn't it?"

"Listen," Lennon replied, "six months ago, I had no idea."

Urged on by celebrity photographer Timothy White, who admired his work, Julian began to put together a show based around a series of landsacpes and skyscapes:

Web Exclusive: Watch Extended Interview With Julian Lennon

"It sort of became a bizarre hobby. But I can't help myself for taking pictures of clouds," Lennon said.

"I guess also, the other side of the coin is, Dad wasn't necessarily known for his photography. Not that that's the reason I'm doing this by any means."

"But you don't have to suffer the comparison," Mason said.

"Yes, in that respect. So there's a joy in this and a freedom to this."

But Julian has also tried to hold onto him. For years he has been buying up Beatles memorabilia at auctions around the world.

He's collected the Afghan coat John wore on the set of "Magical Mystery Tour."

"How did you feel about having to do that?" Mason asked.

"Well, I mean, it does suck, doesn't it? But if that's the only way I can get them back, then that's what I'm going to have to do."

"What means the most to you?"

"I guess the postcards," Julian said. "It means that he was thinking about me at a time he wasn't around."

After the divorce, Julian often went years without seeing his father, who later doted on his half-brother Sean:

"When I saw the fact that, you know, he'd basically given up music for a couple of years to look after Sean, you know, that was - it was hurtful. I thought, 'Well, why didn't he do that for me?'

"But then in retrospect, and [seeing] what duress he was under at the time when the Beatles hit, I mean, they hit as big as it got. I started to grasp, Well, he couldn't have stopped. You have to let go and sort of say, Well, I get it. I understand. I really do."

The day before the opening of his photography show, his mother Cynthia arrived from Spain where she now lives:

"We've never seen my son so happy as he is now," she said.

When asked if he was nervous, Julian Lennon said, "Yeah. I do get incredibly anxious. Almost borderline panic attacks."

On opening night at New York's Morrison Hotel Gallery, Julian's show packed the house:

"I think it was more insane than backstage after a gig," he said.

The crowd included George Harrison's first wife, Pattie Boyd.

(CBS)
And then Yoko arrived with Sean.

Julian and his younger brother, who is now 34, grew up in different homes, in different countries, but they're very close:

"Julian is the reason I started playing music, actually," said Sean. "Because when I was a kid I remember when his record came out. And he was, you know, the biggest thing that existed in the world."

"Biggest thing in our family," said Yoko.

For the first time together, they talked about their relationship:

"Actually he taught me how to play guitar," Sean said. "I remember him teaching me the song, 'Faith' by George Michael."

"Oh, jeez," Julian exclaimed.

"But the truth is Julian was like my hero. He still is," said Sean.

The show included photographs Julian had taken of Sean, when he surprised him on tour in Eastern Europe a few years ago.

For two weeks, Julian rode the tour bus with his brother:

"So he was your roadie?" Mason asked.

"I actually became the sort of assistant tour manager for restaurants."

Sean said, "He's much better at organizing than I am."

"Just experience, my dear boy," Julian said. "Just experience."

"You're the organized one! Anyway, it was the most touching thing."

Julian's relationship with Sean's mother has been far more difficult.

For years he fought bitterly with Yoko for a share of his father's estate, before they finally reached a settlement.

"You've had your differences in the past," Mason said. "Forgive me, but you've decided to 'give peace a chance.'"

"Jeez!" Julian said. "It's just not worth the stress. It really isn't. The stresses and the strains. I think the key point to all this, for me at least, has been Sean. If I hurt Sean's mother, then I hurt Sean. It's a roundabout way of thinking about things. But because I love Sean so much, I just don't want to hurt him. I can get over it. Have gotten over it."

"And thank you for doing that," Sean said.

"Thank you for being here tonight," Julian said.

In the end, Julian Lennon's show of photographs produced its own remarkable picture, that of John Lennon's family together.

Imagine that.
